History of castle „Panství Dlouhá Lhota“

or „Practice makes perfect“.

Our Castle „Hotel Panství Dlouhá Lhota” in no greenfield investment, the following text will give your a brief view of this castle and its history.

The very first topographical mention of our site appeared in written sources about 1336under the name given by its then-holders, the Bavarians from Strakonice, Bavorov Lhota. Bavorov Lhota belonged to Pičín estate, which Bavorov has been holding since 1289. Other well-known owners of Pičín and thus also of Dlouhá Lhota estate were lashed – 1373 Slavimír z Pičína, 1393 Albert z Pičína, 1410 Beneš of Hořovic and Rabštejn and finally Petr Kořenský from Terešov, who sold the entire estate before his death (1493) to Oldřich Bechyně of Lažan. Lhota became an autonmous separate estate until 1515, when his son, Mikuláš, received it after Oldřich´s death. At the same time probably there might a fortress existed but it is not mentioned until 1630 when Mikuláš Bechyně of Lažan sold village and the fortress to the wife of his relative, Judita Bechyňová, born in Bohostice. After her death in 1656, her daughter, Anežka, Magdaléne Markéta and Eva Kateřina, inherited Dlouhá Lhota estate. However, they sold it to Salomena Veronika of Račín, the wife of their brother Kaspar Maximilian, who owned it within the years 1668-1671. During the 17th century the fortress was rebuilt into a Baroque castle. In the 18th century, a French garden was built on the slope behind the castle. Bechyně’s chateau was held with the estate until the end of the 18th century, when they were forced to sell it to the Benedictines at St. Nicholas in the Old Town of Prague. From 1773 the ownership of estate was changed to Růžena Stenzová, nee Pechová. In 1838 the estate was bought by the merchandise of Prince Rudolf Colloredo-Mansfeld, who joined this estate with his property of village in Dobříš. He did not stay at the castle himself renting t the property instead. The last owner of the castle was Mrs. Marie Eiflerová, who bought it together with the surrounding areas just before the Second World War. After the war, the castle served to the local co-operative farmers as offices and apartments, and was ruined due to insufficient care and funding. The proces of rebirth to its original beauty with the castle complex as we know it today “Panství Dlouhá Lhota ” is the clear result of our endeavour and investments: if you wish to experience the result yourself, in person, you are very welcome – just come and visit us.
